A Garden is a Promise
In Autumn 2021, my 17 year old daughter was diagnosed with anorexia. Like an invasive species of vine, its roots had grown deep while the pandemic masked and metastasised its spread. Treatment, though slow to come (due to NHS backlogs), was thankfully successful and, in autumn 2022, my daughter was given cautious permission to attend the university she had worked so hard for.
Through foraging, my daughter was able to find healing and reclaim her love of food and nature.
Combining photography, poetry, cyanotypes, anthotypes, and handmade paper made from foraged materials, this work was created in colloboration with my daughter, Izzy, as part of a video essay exploring her recovery through a mother's eyes.
